Charter school nightmare

De-funding public education is the quickest and easiest way to control the population. The idea is simple: kill critical thinking before it starts. An under-educated populace can be manipulated quite easily, and unless people are aware of their history they are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past. This is where we find ourselves today.

Charter schools serve three primary goals: (1) to make a big fat profit for their shareholders; (2) to destroy the public school system in America; and (3) to suck as much money as they can out of the public treasury.

The real motivation behind the creation of Chartered schools was never about improving the quality of education. Charter schools are a Trojan horse designed to break the teachers unions, privatize public assets, monetize/industrialize education and introduce religious indoctrination into the curriculum. The One Percent couldn’t care less about the implications of poor public education. This argument is not about improving education. It’s about brainwashing. The billionaires are willing to sell out the future of their own children for the sake of short term profit.

Studies have consistently shown that Charter Schools rarely perform better than the public schools they were meant to replace. Indeed, the abysmal performance of some Charters is frightening given their ability to stay open with little if any government oversight.

Standardized testing was the crowbar that pried open the door for charter schools by creating the myth that public schools were performing below ‘standards.’

The rush to privatize public institutions simply confirms that American-style capitalism is in its final death throes. It has turned away from creating profit and into the realm of profiteering. The era of “lean and mean” corporate management has devolved into: how to best rip off customers and make the quickest cash.

Pick something and they’ve already privatized it: electricity, sanitation, cable TV, water….and they have already fucked it up.

Every. Single. Time.

Privatization costs more, lowers standards and inspires corruption. That much is already proven. All it does is transfer taxpayer money from the public good to the hands of private corporations.

A profitable business sector providing goods and services through minimally regulated markets makes perfect sense except in cases when the public good is in the commons. Things like rule of law, health and environmental protection, public transportation, communications, utilities and education are all potentially in direct conflict with the interests of capitalism.

We know what happened when the military privatized its operations. The MIC is now responsible for half of all discretionary spending in the U.S. We know what happens when banks and savings and loans are deregulated. We know what happens when default swaps on home mortgages are traded on Wall Street. We know about JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, HBSC, and we know how every rich fucker reacts when they see free money. They will tear apart even the most sacred institutions in the name of short term profit.

Just be glad the Democrats in Congress prevented George W. Bush from doing the same thing with Social Security prior to the stock-market meltdown.

Education spending is in third place right behind health care and military spending. It broke the hearts of greedy fuckers everywhere to see all that money being thrown away on good teachers and textbooks for children. Thus the Charter school idea was born. The vultures saw dollar signs at the end of the education rainbow.

The starvation of public school funds by the ‘conservatives’ is far more sinister than merely being cheap and penny-pinching, of course. A dumb electorate is putty in the hands of the propaganda ministers while a well-educated electorate is much harder to fool.

The basic problem is that today’s Republican Party doesn’t believe in democracy anymore or governing effectively. They don’t believe in fair play, they don’t believe in cooperation or compromise. They don’t even believe in maintaining a good infrastructure, or jobs, or in building a decent economy. The One Percent will continue their work dismantling the US government so they can offer government-style services at a huge mark-up later on.

Charter schools are part of a well-thought out scheme to destroy the public school system and raise the next generation of unthinking, unquestioning, and uneducated drones. Charter schools must be eliminated and those funds need to be redirected to America’s once-great public school system.

Democracy requires lots of education. Ignorance leads to tyranny.
