America’s reaction to the Black Lives Matter(BLM) movement has been baffling. If millions of black people are saying they feel threatened by the police – shouldn’t that be a cause for concern? Instead of reaching out and trying to understand and then work on alleviating those fears the police have behaved like thugs, not BLM. They act as if the BLM concerns are counter-productive to society.
This could not be further from the truth.
The police should be more concerned about serving the community instead of locking up as many minorities as possible. Local police departments need to be more diligent about preserving the peace rather than creating a war mentality; more about understanding and respect and making sure Americans feel safe in their communities; less about militarization. The police need to start reaching out to the BLM leaders to discuss ways to address what are obviously genuine concerns. It’s simply common sense to anyone who isn’t a racist idiot.
Police departments need to find candidates who aren’t in a constant state of abject terror.
I’m watching the news and there’s a black guy lying in the street with his hands up and another guy sitting next to him playing with a toy truck. Any normal person would walk over and ask if anything is wrong and see if they could help. What was it about this situation that spooked that cop so badly he shot the guy laying on the ground with his hands in the air? Anyone with that strong a fear response ought to be sitting at home writing horror novels, not roaming the streets with a loaded weapon.
Most cops are former military. The US Military is expert at removing the innate human taboo against killing. All it takes is a few weeks of boot camp or officer training. Once that taboo is gone, there isn’t much hope of restoring it. Air force OCS training involves regular ‘hate campaigns’…teaching hate toward civilians…making it easier to kill them.
When the media calls it ‘collateral damage’ and says it was unintended – don’t believe it.
America has been involved in some war or armed conflict for 229 years out of the 239 years of its existence. We are truly a psychopathic country. Why are we surprised at how violent America is – and always has been? And when it wasn’t involved in some kind of war or armed conflict, it was busy enslaving people and committing genocide.
Those who live by the sword shall die by the sword. America has been living by the sword in the worst way for far too long and now we are paying the price for our addiction to the culture of violence and death.
I hope someday the blood lust for violence will exhaust itself and we can return to sanity.
