Psychotic US General Curtis LeMay said of the Korean War (1950-53):
“We went over there and fought the war and eventually burned down every town in North Korea anyway, some way or another, and some in South Korea too…over a period of three years or so, we killed off – what? – twenty percent of the population of Korea as direct casualties of war, or from starvation and exposure…”
America dropped more bombs on Korea than on Europe in all of World War Two. We dropped 7.8 million gallons of napalm on the country. We bombed North Korea’s roads and railway systems; hydroelectric plants, mines and dams – all war crimes. The US government threatened to use chemical weapons and we even had contingency plans to drop nuclear bombs if the war took a turn for the worst.
Korean War Historian Bruce Cummings summed it up as:
“…Three years of genocidal bombing by the US Air Force which killed perhaps two million civilians – one-quarter of the population – dropped oceans of napalm, left barely a modern building standing, opened large dams to flood nearby rice valleys and kill thousands of peasants by denying them food, and went far beyond anything done in Viet Nam in a conscious program of using air power to destroy a society…”
He went on to describe it as “one of the most appalling, unrestrained, genocidal bombing campaigns in (America’s) genocidal twentieth century.”
The 1953 Korean Armistice Agreement banned the introduction of new weapons in the region, but the USA broke the agreement by basing nuclear weapons in Japan. It’s hardly surprising that the country seeks arms with which to defend itself.
Kim Jong-un understands the implications of nuclear disarmament. Libya promised to destroy its nuclear and chemical warfare programs in 2003, and it carried out its promise. In turn, NATO invaded and destroyed Libya, leaving it in utter chaos.
North Korea’s leaders realize that disarmament will likely have the same outcome for them. They may be acting far more rationally than we give them credit for.
To me, this is starting to look more like our corporate overlords just want to open up the North Korean market. Let’s face it: if you’re not buying enough Snickers and Twinkies and Ho Hos your country needs to be invaded. Just ask Iraq, and the propaganda machine that gave us fake WMDs.
Rest assured this provocation by the US has nothing to do with democracy or freedom, and everything to do with Capitalism, with a capital C. I’m surprised Kim hasn’t been accused of gassing North Korean children yet but I’m sure the accusations of starvation and torture and everything else they can think of will continue whether they’re true or not.
Anyone who believes that a military solution can be inflicted upon North Korea without a protracted war involving millions of deaths – needs to visit a psychiatrist. There is no military option. To think that is simply delusional.
Perhaps we could go back and try something unheard of in US foreign policy of late: DIPLOMACY. Too bad the MIC would never go for it. The CIA would probably sabotage the negotiations, anyway.
I mean: Peace talks? Don’t make me laugh. That’s the last thing these fuckers want. Just bringing up the subject means you’re some kinda pussy – according to the outright cowards who run the show.
Every time America bombs another country, the case for building its own nukes is strengthened in the eyes of Pyongyang. More needs to be made of this point when discussing North Korea. Kim Jong-un may be crazy, but he’s not completely stupid. He saw what happened to Saddam and Gadaffi – and all the rest – and he learned very well that if you want to be an evil dictator, that’s fine. But you’d better get yourself a nuclear deterrent otherwise sooner or later the USA is going to run a ‘regime change’ on your ass. Iran appears to be next on the list.
Some believe that Kim is desperately trying to get his hands on a nuclear ICBM so that he can immediately launch it at California. So what would the endgame be in that scenario? Let’s think about this…North Korea would immediately become the world’s largest sheet of radioactive glass. Kim completely understands the ‘mutual’ component of the concept of MAD: Mutual Assured Destruction. Of that there can be no question.
tRump is profoundly stupid and he simply does not have the diplomatic chops or credibility among other world leaders to play effectively at brinksmanship in this situation. If there had been a way of eliminating North Korea’s ability to launch a devastating retaliatory strike if attacked, several previous US presidents – far more qualified for the role than Agent Orange – would probably have taken that path a long time ago.
Nuclear weapons are barbaric weapons of mass murder. It is a morally bankrupt delusion to think that threatening to use such terroristic weapons is ok as long as those threats – to slaughter innocent civilians by the tens of millions – are made by “responsible” people.
No one in charge of these weapons of mass destruction can be considered responsible. It’s a miracle we are all still alive, frankly…
And it’s utterly hypocritical to insist on retaining one’s own WMDs while denouncing the enemy’s. It’s the height of folly to think that nuclear weapons can be kept the exclusive property of “responsible” people. The current nightmarish situation was always inevitable in today’s climate of ‘global terror.’
Nuclear weapons are inherently monstrous and evil. Millions of innocent citizens can now be incinerated at the touch of a button. Truly responsible people must shun these insane, illegal weapons forever.
That means us, too.
