Following the mass shootings at two Christchurch mosques that killed 50 people, New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced that all military-style semi-automatic weapons, assault rifles and high-capacity magazines will now be banned in that country.
“On 15 March our history changed forever. Now our laws will too,” Ardern said at a press conference in Wellington. “We are announcing action today on behalf of all New Zealanders to strengthen our gun laws and make our country a safer place: Every semi-automatic weapon used in the terror attack on Friday will be banned,” she continued, adding that she hoped the law would be implemented by April 11. “This legislation will be drafted and introduced in urgency.”
Wow. See, this is how Democracy is supposed to work, people! Laws get passed within 72 hours. Things get done when people don’t view the government as part of the problem – and they actually care about one another…
This is what happens when you have a real-live functioning government that actually considers the will of its people over the profits of corporations. This is what happens when your country isn’t owned by weapons manufacturers.
