I SAW YOU

I saw you
We are separated by a wall
You look at me as I try to hide;
We smiled and said HI
I watch as your attention falls
on your culinary confection
Your eyes as blue as that of a sun;
glistening on an ocean tide
See me as your plate of food
I will be your entrée

I saw you
I made eye contact when we spoke
You: green eyes; nose ring;
Legs like summer – top that said “WOKE”
heading for Jersey Joe's
We sat in judgement yet kindness
but I was too afraid to talk;
this is a long shot but who knows?
a chance encounter of the comet’s
astral show

I saw you
a short-haired wonder
jeans and a hat with dark locks;
around your neck a collar
I wanted in so I sat at the bar
At first you didn’t notice
I hoped I was your type
Our eyes locked as I got my beer
We talked about things we liked
I said it’s been a rough year

I saw you
Next to me at the concert
we made some small talk;
wearing jeans and a blue shirt
I didn’t mean to ignore you
there was too much loud rock;
You were with someone - I didn’t know whether
it was your significant other
Or your boyfriend or a brother
But I’d like to get to know you better

I saw you.
