Is the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix the worst race on the F1 calendar?

Yes.

The Saudi GP is the worst race on the F1 calendar for many reasons, the first and most obvious one being that the race takes place in one of the most repressive regimes on Earth. Saudi Arabia is a dictatorial Theocracy ruled by a vile despot, Mohammad bin-Salman. F1 should be boycotting the race instead of cozying up to a global pariah.

But hey, they’ve got plenty of disposable income…

The race is held in Jedda, a beautiful resort town on the Red Sea coast, with beautiful beaches alongside impressive high-rise buildings. Unfortunately, no one can enjoy the sunshine because they must cover every part of their bodies…at least the women do. Apparently, because men can’t be held responsible for what might happen at the sight of female flesh. Or something like that…

The Jedda Corniche circuit is immaculate and it’s kitted out with all the amenities one would expect from one of the wealthiest nations on Earth. The problem is, the track is a piece of shit. It was designed by the “brilliant” track designer Herman Tilke at enormous expense. The race track was subsidized by the Saudi government and by ARAMCO, the US/UK/Saudi petroleum company that reported a record $161 BILLION dollar profit last year.

Sadly, they did not get their money’s worth.

Tilke was so proud of this track on its debut…but someone should have asked him why he would design a circuit with no fucking passing zones. The track is around 4 miles long, with beautiful, sweeping, ultra-fast turns…but there is no way to outbreak an opponent when you’re on full throttle 90% of the time! The track design was so bad they’ve already had to modify it twice since it debuted 3 years ago to try and create someplace where the drivers might try a passing maneuver. It has made virtually no difference.

Why would you design a track where it’s impossible to pass? Stupid!

As one can imagine, the Saudi GP is incredibly boring to watch. It was a procession this year as expected. The top 10 positions were already set by half distance; it wasn’t much of a race. That’s what happens when there’s nowhere to pass! Okay, so World Champion Max Verstappen drove through the field from 15th place, but that’s only because his car is so much better than the rest. He simply drove around his competitors, finishing in 2nd in a Red Bull one-two. His teammate Sergio Perez led the race from start to finish. Yawn…

The Saudi GP should be removed from the F1 calendar. Pick a reason…
