- THEY’RE COMING TO TAKE YOUR GUNS!!!
Along with the ridiculous “good guy with a gun” concept, this is the dumbest argument put forth by the gun-humpers. Your collection of puny little pea-shooters doesn’t guarantee you will be protected from the state. They don’t need your guns. Their guns are bigger than yours: WAY bigger. The U.S. military is the most skilled and best equipped in the world. Rest assured, they are not afraid of you.
- HITLER WOULD NEVER HAVE COME TO POWER IF THE GERMAN PEOPLE HAD A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO FIREARM OWNERSHIP.
Bullshit. The French, Dutch, Danes, Belgians, Norwegians and the Poles all had standing armies and they couldn’t resist Hitler. All this stuff about “if the Jews had been armed, there would’ve been no Holocaust” is pure NRA revisionism.
Yes, Hitler still would still have come to power, sorry to say. He was a master demagogue. He convinced the German people that certain minority groups were the source of their problems and that HE alone had the solution. He played on their fears and promised to “make Germany great again.”
Sound familiar?
- AN ARMED POPULATION IS NOT EASILY SUBJUGATED.
News flash: you’re already subjugated. A plutocracy of wealthy elites control our political system, selecting the two choices we are given every four years to vote on. Are we rebelling? No.
We already have the highest incarceration rate on the planet. Nearly 2 million people are currently being held in American jails. Are we rebelling? No.
Fact is, an armed population is as easy to subjugate as any other. One only needs to convince people that they’re fighting an implacable global enemy and they’ll line up to buy the chains of their own slavery.
The typical gun-humper’s argument goes something like this:
“The Second Amendment was put in place to limit the potential for the federal government to become a tyranny. People…think these Amendment’s ‘give’ rights, while in reality they restrict the government from infringing on existing rights. The people who wrote the Bill foresaw a time when a large federal government would trample the rights of the people and become a tyranny. The Second Amendment was put in place to make sure that if worst came to worst, the people would always have an option to fight back…”
WRONG AGAIN. The idea that the framers of The Constitution had some kind of magic crystal ball which allowed them to foresee a future where an armed civilian populace would go toe-to-toe with a professional army is simply more revisionist bullshit.
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed…”
Funny, but I don’t see anything in there about government tyranny in there. I don’t see anything about individual gun ownership, either. As always, the revisionists are incapable of putting anything into historical context. This was a good argument back in the day when single shot muzzle-loaders were the weapons of choice. In the age of Hellfire drones, Abrams M1 tanks, F-16s and laser-guided missiles…not so much. If we did rise up in armed revolt against the government, we’d be squashed like bugs.
Founding father and proud slave owner Patrick Henry argued:
“If the country be invaded, a state may go to war, but cannot suppress [slave] insurrections [under this new Constitution]. If there should happen an insurrection of slaves, the country cannot be said to be invaded. They cannot, therefore, suppress it without the interposition of Congress…. Congress, and Congress only, can call forth the militia.”
The Second Amendment was ratified to preserve slavery, pure and simple. It was formulated as a compromise which allowed the southern states to maintain their slave patrols independent of federal oversight. The purpose of the southern militias was to maintain the institution of slavery. These militias were part and parcel of southern society and necessary for its survival, since slaves outnumbered whites in many places.
Without these armed militias there would have been no way to stop slave rebellions.
That crap about how the Second Amendment was created so that individuals would have the means to rebel against some imaginary tyrannical government is pure redneck fantasy.
It was created so that White folks in the South could terrorize the Black population.
