“The crimes of the United States have been systematic, constant, vicious, remorseless, but very few people have actually talked about them. You have to hand it to America. It has exercised a quite clinical manipulation of power worldwide while masquerading as a force for universal good. It’s a brilliant, even witty, highly successful act of hypnosis.”
Harold Pinter, 2005 Nobel Lecture
Waging war is pretty much a waste of energy, resources and lives, unless you look at it from the standpoint of an evil, proto-fascist mastermind. On the other hand, preparing for war is highly profitable: building fancy new killing machines and upgrading the growing stockpile of old WMDs is where more than half a trillion taxpayer dollars go.
A small dent in that ginormous sum and we’d have a proper social democracy including massive public funding for the arts and sciences; top-notch public education from kindergarten through to college; affordable public housing; comprehensive, preventive healthcare for every American…
But nah, fuck it: we need another new worthless Billion-dollar missile defense system, right? Especially with Iran, North Korea, and Big Bad Vlad being so very, very bad – and threatening! Even though America is the supposed to be the most powerful nation on earth, somehow we feel threatened.
Because by and large, Americans are cowards.
And naturally we need to protect our “friends” Israel and Saudi Arabia. I mean, we’d all rather send them our hard-earned tax dollars so that they can have free education and free healthcare for all their citizens…right? Like, who needs that stuff here? They pay good money for our weapons, afterall…
The shameless propaganda of the mainstream media [MSM] has contributed to all of the unnecessary wars, invasions, occupations, and attacks on civil liberties since the 1963 Coup d’Etat; starting with Viet Nam. The cowardice and lack of adequate investigative journalism in the US allows the bloodbath to continue up to the present day. ‘We the people’ have been betrayed by the media for their total non-coverage of America’s unrelenting global military aggression. But alas, the MSM is too dependent upon the Death Cult dollars for their survival.
They have been reduced to the role of ‘Imperial Cheerleader.’
The corporate MSM is in the business primarily to make a profit for their owners, the War Machine. Weapons manufacturers are in the business for profit. Any kind of military action is good for business so there’s always plenty of support for anything that increases their profits.
Warring is good as long as there are lives to carry out the enterprise. All the deaths caused by this endeavor matter not a whit to these monsters. Only profits and dividends.
From the Native American genocide up to the present-day holocaust of the people in Gaza, Central Asia and Africa, the good ole US of A is responsible for the unnecessary suffering of more men, women and children than any other nation on earth.
Bombing a mosque – as US forces did in Syria – does more for al Qaeda and ISIS recruiting than any recruiting drive those organizations could muster. Indiscriminate bombing makes the task of acquiring new fighters that much easier.
We bombed and strafed a hospital in Kunduz, Afghanistan for several hours – even as the hospital staff were on the phone with CENTCOM, begging them to stop.
Last month, a US-led coalition air strike killed 18 of its allied Syrian Democratic Forces fighting against Isis in Syria. Somehow we actually manage to kill more of our allies than terrorists in the war on terror…
What about all those “mistakes” the greatest fighting force in the world keeps making? C’mon, man! Not even the US military is that incompetent. These are all calculated acts to increase the chaos and create more divisions and factions of angry, helpless people…who then become immigrants…go figure.
The 300 to 400 civilians we killed in Mosul a month or so ago – the MSM hid it from Americans for over a week – were the victims of another merciless hour-long bombing campaign.
These were all clearly really ugly war crimes, but don’t worry: in each case the Pentagon investigated itself and declared itself NOT GUILTY. No need for an independent investigation. We can all rest easier tonight.
But our terrorists have been losing in Syria, which is why we are now putting more “boots on the ground” there. These events no doubt are a terrific recruiting tool for the terrorists.
The problem with Iraq and Afghanistan is that it they are not wars, as such. They’re ‘occupations.’ The USA intends to occupy those countries forever, just as it has occupied Japan, Germany, South Korea and many other nations where it fought wars, forever.
The real war is the daily brutalization of people by occupation forces. We have to face the fact that the USA is the primary force creating terrorists in the world. No wonder people consider Americans monsters.
We are indeed monsters.
There are two ways to run an occupation: first, the empire can invite the occupied people to participate in the economy of the master state by helping recreate infrastructure. This is the model of Japan, S. Korea, and Germany. The advantage of this model is that the occupied people become relatively well off and they forget about the occupation.
The second way is the USA/Israeli way. This method requires the military to brutalize the occupied people and force them into submission using every method at its disposal, including genocide. The US used this method to great effect on Native Americans as it took over their land.
But this form of occupation creates resistance fighters (“terrorists” in the MSM) who conclude that it’s better to die fighting than to die starving. That is the ultimate goal of this cruelty, however: to drive weak minds into desperate acts in order to justify the continued brutal occupation in an endless cycle of violence. This kind of occupation never works, but it is very satisfying to the sadists who run empires. Plus, it sells a lot of weapons.
Trump’s recent amateurish bombing sprees and threats of nuclear holocaust are simply more reality TV. They didn’t do anything for the people on the ground, but they sure kept the MSM agog for days. They just loved saying “mother of all bombs.”
Killing helpless brown people thousands of miles away has always been the favored way to boost a president’s popularity. Half-senile, impotent old White men and their lackeys get the opportunity to feel manly and virile again – instead of having to deal with all those strange feelings about meeting young boys in bathroom stalls…
Suddenly the coke-addled orange cretin is acting PRESIDENTIAL! The MSM fell over themselves to praise this criminal act. Mike Pence ejaculated for the first time in 12 years when he saw those missiles being launched.
It seems the US is reverting back to the cold war mentality; an era of paranoia and brutal global realpolitik in which strategic realignment was brought about by threatening to unleash horrendous destruction. The US corporate state will exert ever more pressure on weaker nations as the globe becomes more openly a ‘Grand Chessboard.’
Trump understands perhaps more than most the militaristic nature of American society, which was heavily cultivated just after Viet Nam to ensure the public never really turned against a war or those fighting it again…
He also seems to understand the ”mob” mentality, and much like the Roman ruler Commodus, he knows that giving people a spectacle – assisted by the MSM’s lust for sensationalism – will divert their attention from the real issues to fall in line with sufficient support for whatever it is The State wants.
The most important lesson the US military Junta took away from the Viet Nam war is how to ensure carefully manipulated public opinion for our future militaristic endeavors. Embedding journalists to guarantee they only present the “good guy” image was one easy way to accomplish this. Hiding civilian death tolls, broadening and creating huge grey areas as to what constitutes a “terrorist” – along with carefully constructed branding of every American soldier a hero. All of these methods work.
There are plenty of ways to manufacture consent. For instance: we’ve been programmed to think that criticizing endless war is a personal attack on America and those brave fighting men and women of the armed forces. That sort of spin never fails.
America’s number one export is war. It can’t manufacture much of anything else worth a shit, so the Junta has decided to drain the US economy by expending stockpiles of weapons to blow up countries with dark-skinned people and/or lots of Muslims. Endless War is now a key strategic goal, and it is the central pillar of the US economy.
So, global citizens, remember this: you are America’s targets, and you are expendable. The last thing the US military Junta wants is WORLD PEACE.
It would destroy the global economy if peace broke out now.
America has always been at war with Oceania. And, God willing, it always will be.
