THE ‘BUYBULL’ TELLS ME SO…

When we look at how fucked up America is today, we must consider the origins of the United States. The first waves of colonists cultivated the identity of the US as a haven from religious persecution, but it’s important to remember that those “Puritan” colonists weren’t exactly progressives fleeing a harsh and unforgiving church: they were religious extremists who were fleeing an environment which they deemed sinful, immoral and far too permissive. They came to the new world specifically to persecute others. Or at least for the freedom to do so…

On top of that, the Founding Fathers where all slave-owning misogynist Illuminati. They were clever and self-righteous, but the elitists who created this nation were truly awful people – despite all that ‘freedom’ mumbo-jumbo. Deal.

The legacy of all of this can be clearly seen in Donald Trump’s candidacy. A racist, misogynist, thrice married serial philanderer with no history of ever having been religious said a few words standing behind the right podium and White Evangelicals fell in line.

He clearly doesn’t represent any of the things they claim to believe in. But he does hate the same people they hate, and that’s enough. Sadly, much of Evangelical Christianity in the US boils down to intense anger and a sense of self righteousness so openly hypocritical it defies reason.

It’s amazing how those who lack love and can only hate can describe themselves as “Christians.” Or those who fight to keep weapons whose only purpose is to kill…or those who deny self evident truths…

They are anything but Christian, and their views are closer to Adolf Hitler’s Aryan dream than anything in the ‘Buybull.’

I am no Christian, and I’m certainly not defending any religion, but I’ve known some real Christians in my life and they were the polar opposite of fascists like Roy Moore.

We should be well past this obvious point by now: these immoral creatures are not Christians, nor do they have any type of Christian values. They act out of ignorance, greed and prejudice. We know that; they know that; everyone knows it. Let’s move on.

The focus should be on education. The poor, disenfranchised and ill-informed constantly vote against their own interests – which is due to a serious lack of formal education. This is why the GOP is anti-education and constantly stigmatizing public schools, universities, grad students and college professors. They under-fund education and resist expansion at all costs. This is what they mean when they say schools are “too liberal.” They mean that when someone becomes literate and informed they are more likely to turn their back on such nonsense.

The future is very dark if people are allowed to cling to fairy tales. Knowledge is a highly valued commodity in a world of lies.

The drooling “family values” hordes voted for the adulterer and pussy-grabber, but they hated the highly qualified, once-married woman / mother. Enough said.

The sleeping giant of the Democratic Party (such as it is…) is the southern states. What can defeat the GOP is the Black vote, with help from the Black Churches. They pulled off a miracle in Alabama. Those GOP evangelicals who want to force the IRS to make church electioneering legal might want to consider that

Black congregations use the same ‘Buybull’ as the White Trash, but Liberation Theology has fundamentally different foundations, which substituted its own plantation-era symbolism for the harsh, judgemental literalism of white evangelicalism.

Slaves were Christianized for the purpose of producing more compliant servants, but unfortunately for the plantation owners the plan backfired and the slave preachers read their own powerful symbols into familiar Biblical texts. Slave church gatherings became organizational foci for abolitionism, and eventually the Underground Railroad.

The result, which still persists in many Black congregations today, is a starkly different and far more vibrant and inspirational strain of Christianity…if one is inclined to religious worship.

But if the Dems ever hope to flip the south, they will need a message that speaks to the needs of Southerners of all races, and especially one which resonates with the Black community. Then they will need to support genuine candidates who will carry that message with true conviction. They need candidates to connect with Black people with the same palpable authenticity that Bernie Sanders manifested in the working class.

This is where the Black Churches come in. They offer the best chance of generating a large turnout of Democratic voters. Reverend Barber’s Poor People’s Campaign (https://poorpeoplescampaign.org/) is a perfect example of the kind of activism which needs to take place.

Look closely at the breakdown of votes in Alabama. Roy Moore retained the backing of 91% of Republicans who turned out. Those loyalists were not sufficiently repelled by that unchristian psycho to switch parties. More astonishingly, 63% of white women and 72% of white men in Alabama voted for Moore, despite everything.

Had it been up to the state’s white voters, Moore would be a US senator today.

Alabama is one more reason why Democrats need to stop being corporate stooges and return to being reliable activists for the people. I’m not holding my breath, mind you…
