Every year the US president has been obliged to pardon a turkey for Thanksgiving.

There is a long-standing tradition of presidents sparing birds from the Thanksgiving table – dating back to Abraham Lincoln and receiving formal pardons every year since George HW Bush.

For 2020, a turkey named ‘Corn’ was chosen for that honor at a ceremony in the White House Rose Garden. But one thing was different this year: still stinging from his humiliating loss to Democrat Joe Biden – thanks mostly to Black people – the outgoing president formally pardoned this year’s turkey, but only the WHITE MEAT.
