It’s no secret that the Internet was created by the US Department of Defense on behalf of America’s Military-Industrial Complex [MIC]. It was originally conceived under the Eisenhower Administration in the early 1960s as a secure communications network linking several important universities, think tanks and research labs together, which would be able to survive a nuclear attack. It became known as ARPANET [which derived its name from the Advanced Research Projects Agency that created it].
The internet was hardwired from the very beginning to be an intelligence gathering tool.
In 1961, an R&D team headed by William Godel, Deputy Director of the Department of Defense’s Advanced Research Projects Agency, visited Vietnam to discuss the establishment of a ‘joint research and development center.’ Godel thought the war could be won more easily using recently developed predictive technology to anticipate the movements and understand the motives of the enemy.
The ARPANET was developed as an offshoot of the electronic counterinsurgency [CI] program deployed in Vietnam in the 1960s, which was used to ‘pacify’ the indigenous population. Components of the ARPANET were incorporated into the CIA’s genocidal PHOENIX assassination program.
With the end of American involvement in the Vietnam War, the embryonic ARPANET facilitated domestic surveillance efforts undertaken by the US Army and the CIA during conflict.
But what began as a tool for spying on Viet Cong guerrilla fighters in South Vietnam eventually grew into a high-tech computer networking project of mass domestic surveillance and prediction.
Soon some big fucking genius at the CIA figured out that this new technology could be used against peace activists and minorities living in America’s inner cities, where civil unrest and race riots were breaking out on a daily basis.
After the war ended, people like Charles Murray [author of The Bell Curve], who had worked on CI programs for the DoD in Southeast Asia, returned to the US and began applying the pacification ideas they developed in the jungles of Vietnam to the domestic population back home. That is what really led to the creation of the Internet: the need to spy on Americans for purposes of social control.
The ability to profile every citizen and manipulate every aspect of human social activity isn’t simply a convenient offshoot of the computerized world: it’s why we have a computerized world.
The World Wide Web came about in an attempt to build computer systems which were fast enough to study global events in real time and analyze people and political movements using artificial intelligence – with the ultimate goal of predicting and preventing social upheaval. These new “supercomputers” were supposed to be able to collect, collate and share this metadata across multiple platforms.
Surveillance methods developed in Vietnam were enthusiastically applied against American citizens, especially those trying to improve the country in any way: union organizers, civil rights activists, anti-war protesters, or anyone who spoke out against the government. Or Negroes.
All the big names in the IT business are part of the ongoing program: FACEBOOK, Amazon, Google and Microsoft were all major military contractors from the beginning. Their ties with CIA, NSA, DIA, FBI, DHS, ICE and other government agencies allows them to sell their most valuable asset: data provided by their users. The search data and advertising interests of companies like Google and Amazon overlap perfectly with the surveillance interests of the US government.
Today, all of the major Internet providers collect private information for profit. They allow agencies like HOMELAND SECURITY and the NSA to hoover up all their activity for their own nefarious purposes. Silicon Valley and the MIC are basically one and the same.
In fact, Silicon Valley is so intertwined with the US military and intelligence agencies that it’s hard to tell them apart anymore. There’s little distinction between corporate and military agendas. Google’s interests are the same as the Pentagon’s, and America has become one giant military-industrial complex seeking to impose free-market fascism on the rest of the world.
For Amazon, Google, Microsoft, FACEBOOK and the like – surveillance is the business model. It is the base on which their economic power lies. They gather private information indiscriminately. The NSA couldn’t operate as easily as it does without their help.
The internet was developed by the MIC, but eventually it was privatized – without much public debate or input. It was an enormous giveaway which ultimately led to the end of “net-neutrality” as we know it with the passing of the Telecommunications Act in 1996.
Back in the 1970s when I was growing up – before everyone on the planet became addicted to their iphone – computer surveillance was seen as tool of repression, not liberation. Congressional hearings were held. Some of the few remaining liberal voices saw mass surveillance as a type of hybrid public-private system of computerized population control, and they warned it could eventually be used to spy on US citizens and progressive movements.
By the 1990s, computer surveillance – which had previously been seen as part of a threatening military-police state – was suddenly being romanticized and celebrated as the inevitable by-product of a brave new high-tech society.
Following 9/11 there was to be no further debate. The mass-surveillance state was here to stay…
The recent revelations from FACEBOOK whistleblower Frances Haugen, a former FB product manager, come as no surprise to those of us who saw the potential damage of these social media platforms a long time ago.
Haugen testified before congress in October 2021 that “The version of FACEBOOK that exists today is tearing our societies apart and causing ethnic violence around the world.”
Wow.
I have never had a FB account and I never will. Now at least maybe I don’t seem like such a quack. More people are becoming WOKE to the idea that FACEBOOK is evil and should be avoided at all costs. Like, duh [the name ‘FACEBOOK’ itself is creepy enough…!]
In 2019, FACEBOOK was fined $5bn by the US Federal Trade Commission for deceiving users about its ability to keep personal information private – after a year-long investigation into the Cambridge Analytica data breach, where a UK analysis firm harvested millions of Facebook profiles of US voters and sold the data to godonlyknows.
FACEBOOK has repeatedly allowed despotic world leaders and politicians to use its platform to deceive the public or harass opponents despite repeatedly being alerted to evidence of wrongdoing.
US internet providers and social media platforms like FACEBOOK and INSTAGRAM have always been an instrument of American power. Yet for years, FB tried to portray itself as a totally neutral platform devoid of any national or geopolitical interests – and for a while it succeeded. These days it doesn’t try to hide it anymore. After 2016, the gauntlet was laid down.
FACEBOOK and the rest now openly function as an extension of American imperial power. The US Agency for Global Media’s congressionally-mandated propaganda mission includes running many different FACEBOOK pages. Yet none of these websites disclose the source of their funding — nor do they disclose that their whole point is to influence the populations of foreign countries on behalf of the US government.
Our society is crumbling because that is what Our Rulers want. Chaos, disorder, fear and division: they aren’t randomly created. America is a finely tuned, slow torture machine. We can expect more school shootings and random gun violence; unrelenting police brutality; a new war; higher prices; shortages of basic necessities, rationing, fewer worker protections, poorer quality products; higher gas prices, more race riots, increasing inequality and the general loosening of the fabric of society.
It’s no accident. America is a social engineering triumph for the forces of evil that created the virtual AI-assisted matrix which now controls every aspect of our lives from cradle to grave.
America is MANUFACTURED to be this way.
