It’s a pattern historians have seen many times before: It starts with the quiet dismantling of oversight and the abolition of regulations, and it ends with institutions that serve only those in power. The US used to have strong institutions and a vigorous vocal opposition; but seeing these government watchdogs being summarily dismissed should make us all wonder just how far it will go…

Trump doesn’t give a shit about busting norms, and why should he? The extremists on the Supreme Court gave him carte blanche to basically do whatever he wants with no holds barred and no legal consequences. They deemed him immune to prosecution for crimes committed while in office.

He is by far the dumbest fucking moron ever to hold the office of president of the United States. It’s terrifying to think he has so much power in his sweaty little hands.

And what kind of people think Elon Musk is cool, anyway? Just for the record: I hated Elon Musk before it was cool to hate Elon Musk.

But the Democrats are done; finished. The Democratic experiment with its high-minded Constitution and limited personal freedoms was simply not equipped to fight a fascist takeover from within.

It’s been clear for quite some time that the US electorate is deeply ‘educationally challenged.’ We knew that, thanks to the horrendous state of the US public education system – they had the attention span and reading skills of a gnat.

We knew that many of them couldn’t find their own country on a map of the world.

And then smartphones and social media came along and made Americans even dumber; even more obsessed with culture wars, and even less knowledgeable than before. For millions of people – especially new young male voters – politics became a way of asserting their apparently fragile masculinity. They are no longer capable of absorbing factual information, especially through the written word.

They can only be reached through slogans and videos. Simple solutions for simple people...

Only Trump speaks their language. They are a reflection of who he is.

I fear that the intellectual level of average Americans, including new voters, has fallen below a point of no return; a point at which democracy is no longer tenable…

The Democratic Party certainly can’t help us. Don’t forget it was billionaire Nancy Pelosi who killed AOC’s ascension to become ranking member of the House Oversight Committee. She might have actually made a difference. But now we’re stuck with Gerry Connolly – the 74-year old White codger currently undergoing cancer treatment who Pelosi installed: pissing into the wind while the unelected, illegal immigrant Elon Musk and his teenage brown shirts steal access to Treasury’s security files on millions of Americans.

And for god knows what purpose..! My guess is they want to steal all the money and bankrupt the federal government. Like, duh.

But long-winded ‘think pieces’ in international newspapers or outrage on social media will have no effect on these pugnacious demons. Protests won’t make a damn bit of difference, either, and they will be met with extreme, brutal force.

America voted in a deranged narcissist for President. He has no constraints on his power, and unfortunately nobody is standing up to him. The Trump Cult will be very difficult to dislodge in the coming years…

When Trump lost the election in 2020, he denied it, then he tried to coerce election officials to find non-existent votes, and then he helped organize an insurrection. Did anyone actually think that when he got into office again he’d suddenly start respecting democratic norms? We’re stuck with this president and his chosen successors for a very long time.

But Trump’s second term also points to a lack of basic decency in the American people themselves. You don’t need a fancy hifalutin education to be able to judge human character. I can’t understand how even the most ignorant people could fail to see that Trump is a profoundly evil man. The only conclusion one can draw is that for many Americans, the cruelty is part of the appeal.

Trump shut down the special prosecutor’s office which was supposed to fight corruption and steadily extended GOP control over state and privately owned media. He’s purged cultural institutions and put Trump cultists in charge, while courting fascists like Benjamin Netanyahu, Victor Orban and Vladimir Putin as political allies. No one bats an eye.

The USA, while it likes to think of itself as an open, pluralist and fairly liberal society, it is in fact a very illiberal, rigid and intolerant society that has always been racist and misogynistic and entirely focused on its own economic well-being…and promoting Christian nationalism.

The GOP is as radically far right as Europe’s most extreme neo-fascists now, if not more so. But while the AfD is stuck on 20% of the vote in Germany, Trump can get 50% in the US!! That’s 77 million people for fuck’s sake!

But look: we KNEW this would happen. Who DIDN’T see this coming? The only surprising thing is that people actually seem to be surprised. I am mortified by my fellow Americans who voted for this abomination, and while they deserve what they get, the rest of us who did not choose to side with an evil demon do not deserve it. I wish I could leave the country, but who can afford to now?

The US will never again enjoy the trust and goodwill that it did before Trump. And maybe that’s for the best.
