The reason the GOP hate college so much is because college-educated people are less likely to vote against their own interests. College grads generally have more critical thinking skills than the average moron (although not always…) and the good students can see through the lies peddled by the neocons. The average students…not so much…
Because at its root, the ‘conservative’ movement is based on lies and deceit and the denial of reality. The victory was complete as soon as the radical ideologues hell-bent on the restructuring of government started referring to themselves as ‘conservatives’. These so-called ‘conservatives’ actively deny science, logic, and reason, BTW. That is not in any way ‘conservative’ – it’s RADICAL.
If only the rest of the country was as passionate about education as they are about killing foreigners.
All Americans should care deeply about free speech. But bringing fringe lunatics and Neo-Nazis onto college campuses as “free speech advocates” and celebrating their repulsive ideologies as “the free exchange of ideas” does not promote any exchange of ideas beyond name-calling and insults. You can’t exchange ideas with people whose polemics are intellectually content-free.
Beyond that, since hatred and prejudice are ideas which are so free of intellectual content, they cannot be debated. There is no rational argument for bigotry and intolerance, no matter how you try and spin it. Racism is based in emotional bias, ignorance, and whatever illogical fallacies which follow from it. You can’t really argue people out of ignorance.
Haters gonna hate.
The fact is that the Hate Speakers consider most of the student body, the faculty and anyone associated with Higher Ed to be commie libtard baby-killing race-mixing fornicators. To them, they are subhuman: Lebensunwertes Leben.
“All them pointy-headed intellectuals need to GO! The GOP don’t like no fancy book-learnin’, no way, no how…”
Furthermore, leftist and progressives have already been systematically excluded and censored in the media, or they’ve had their careers strangled before they can become major voices for Truth. Look at Norm Finkelstein, Michael Hastings, Noam Chomsky, Ward Churchill or Chris Hedges as examples.
Part of the problem with this line of discourse is that instead of eliminating the double standard which already exists, the Nazis version of ‘free speech’ really just means unlimited free speech for them – at the expense of everyone else’s.
The far right has weaponized free speech to shoe-horn their own converging evil agendas onto college campuses nation-wide. They don’t give a shit about anyone’s freedoms: I mean, come on! It’s all lies. They want to dominate the discussion on campus again as if it’s still 1953. And like every other right-wing agenda; if it’s permitted to go on unchallenged for a long enough time, it becomes codified.
