Folks who live in Missouri can’t decide whether it’s pronounced “Missouree” or “Missourah.”
Unfortunately, they’re BOTH WRONG.
The correct pronunciation of “Missouri” is “MISERY.”
Whatever you call it, it must be said that Missouri is one of THE MOST fucked up states in the Union. It is certainly one of the most corrupt, unethical and poorly run – with virtually no limits on lobbying or how much ‘dark money’ can flow into the state as “campaign contributions.”
Home of the famous ‘riots’ in Ferguson – Missouri is known for police killings and institutionalized racism and injustice; not just in the local police departments, but in all levels of government – or lack thereof. Missouri’s loose laws and lax regulation and enforcement have drained Missouri of any semblance of a democracy.
The state itself was born out of the infamous “Missouri Compromise” – federal legislation passed in 1820 which allowed Maine to be admitted to the United States on the condition that Missouri be admitted simultaneously. As part of the “compromise” Missouri would be allowed to keep its black population enslaved, while the legislation prohibited slavery north of the 36°30′ parallel, excluding Missouri. Thus, the balance of power between North and South was maintained in the US Senate, and human slavery endured for forty more years in the great state of MISERY…
Most people have heard by now about what happened Thursday night at the NFL season opener when 17,000 fans were allowed into the grandstands at Kansas City’s ARROWHEAD stadium. During what the league described as “a moment of silence dedicated to the ongoing fight for equality in our country,” the white trash contingent began booing and jeering when players from both teams came onto the field and linked arms in a “Moment of Unity.”
The incident was especially repugnant considering it was simply a show of solidarity between fellow competitors, with both black and white players displaying their unity by simply linking arms together. It wasn’t a protest, or even a political statement, per se…
As many have pointed out, these KANSAS CITY CHIEFS fans – fans whose team is named for people of color and whose players are mostly BLACK – began the NFL season by booing a show of unity by people of color.
Sadly, this is the reality of our current degenerate culture and many of us have known it all along; some of us openly admitting it while others simply dismissed it as the behavior of a small segment of the population. After all, they will tell you that we were living in a ‘post-racial’ society because goddammit we elected a black man president in 2008 and then reelected him in 2012, so how could the country be so racist?
Booing a “show of unity” is why players feel so strongly about these causes to begin with. But those Chiefs fans aren’t alone, because let’s be honest: a good portion of this country simply doesn’t want any sort of unity.
White Americans tend to become very defensive when their deliberate indifference to institutional racism is exposed publicly. Although many claim to support civil rights, most accepted the explanations about police killings until the use of phone cameras became widespread. The evidence of the decades-long complaints by people of color about racial profiling have been proven beyond doubt.
Now that they are finally doing something about it, white Americans react with hostility to the implication they have allowed racism and bigotry to flourish within their precious police departments.
You’d better believe that if a bunch of soldiers and law enforcement officers had locked arms in solidarity there would’ve been a fucking STANDING OVATION.
We sure do love our Police State in America, oh yes we do! But what do you expect after a decade of enforced patriotism, all the flyovers, military worship and gigantic Umerkin flags on the field – at every game?
The fact is, professional athletes have been involved in political activism for a very long time. There have been many before LeBron and Colin Kaepernick.
Other famous ‘activist-athletes’ include Muhammad Ali, Babe Didrikson Zaharias, Jackie Robinson, Bill Russell, Jesse Owens, John Carlos, Tommie Smith, Carlos Delgado, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, Vince Matthews, Wayne Collett, Billie Jean King, Megan Rapinoe, Jim Brown, Martina Navratilova, Craig Hodges, etc…some of the greatest athletes of all time..!
Over the years, athletes who use their celebrity to highlight important social issues have been instrumental in helping to expose and eradicate things like sexism, ageism and institutional racism.
So shut the fuck up already.
