The Trump clan is destroying American culture.

What passes for culture in America is already a whitewashed, dumbed-down Leave It To Beaver version of reality. Our true, vibrant multi-cultural history of art, literature and music is all but ignored in the mainstream media (MSM).

The problem has always been that some of our country’s most treasured assets were created by people of color, gay people, or women. Some were even socialists or communists. God forbid!

We have always been forced to accept a white, white, white “mono-cultural” social media in the USA. At least that;s the way I saw it growing up. Americans in general don’t appreciate the brilliant artistic and cultural contributions we’ve made to the world because clueless white guys have always held the reins of power in the MSM. They are they true purveyors of taste in this country. 

Of course, Trump has gone out of his way to play up the cultural divides in the US. Suddenly ‘Political Correctness’ is a big deal. It’s not surprising, given that most American humor is so rude and juvenile and offensive. 

This has been on the cards since stand-up comedians like Chris Rock stopped playing universities because the PC crowd has lost its sense of humor. The college circuit used to be a place where unconventional ideas could be presented without some asshat getting offended and complaining to his frat buddies (“Hey, that black guy made fun of WHITE PEOPLE!”).

This is a logical consequence of our collective failure to distinguish between the subjective and objective in regards to something being deemed “offensive” or not. If the only standard is your subjective feelings, then no matter what was intended, you gain power by taking offense. In that environment, being WOKE requires that you signal your WOKE-NESS by being more offended by material which is less and less offensive.

Eventually, no one is safe from the PC mob. Not in the good ole free-thinkin’ First Amendment USA. Now, few comics dare to take a gig that exposes them to the scrutiny of the permanently aggrieved.

The problem is a small cohort of people – the upper middle class, university educated, liberal arts majors; dogmatically progressive, moralizing fraction of the generation. They are highly active on social media and they treat their political ideology like a religion.

Humor, irony, satire and social commentary use double and triple meanings which most Americans are incapable of understanding comprehending – so they get offended.

Usually they get offended ON BEHALF of someone they don’t even know, or even really give a shit about: “I’m a college-educated woman and I’m offended that that African American person said the ‘N-word’…” or “I consider myself progressive and I’m personally offended that Native American comedian referred to ‘drunken Indians’ in his monologue…” or, “I’m a college educated man and I didn’t like it when that lady used the word ‘Lesbo’…”

Social media such as FACEBOOK and Instagram have created an army of people who look for any reason to take offense – who believe they have a right never to be offended by anything; who take things literally when it suits their agenda, and don’t when it doesn’t. It is dangerous and unhealthy for society, and it’s no wonder there is a sudden outbreak of vigilance in the ‘Entertainment Industry.’ No one wants the backlash if they get it wrong – so self-censorship kicks in, and all the creativity and any semblance of ‘pushing of boundaries’ is sucked out of the process before it even starts…

Large sections of the public can no longer distinguish between fact and fiction; signifier and signified. They are incapable of making the distinction, because critical thinking is virtually non-existent in American society. Therefore, any attempt at highlighting the dark underbelly, or the endless wars, or the endemic racism, inequality, or all the lies and hypocrisy in America – even in a humorous fashion – is a sure-fire way to kill your career.

SNL is just celebrity impersonations now as far as I can tell. US Sitcoms are virtually humor-free zones. The utterly homogeneous six-minute monologues from the late-night talk show hosts simply don’t qualify as humor, either. Look: if it’s featured the next morning on GOOD MORNING AMERICA, it isn’t funny. Sorry to break the news.

Humor is all but dead in this country.

Post-modernity is eating itself – which always was the inevitable outcome of this PC bullshit.
